Add, replace and remove tools
Build a workspace from the tool picker without losing track of each tool's selection.
Choose a tool by the evidence you need
Adding a tool changes the workspace's presentation. It does not create a new market source or change your dataset access. Start by naming the evidence you need: price bars, modeled exposure, captured option prints, volatility, open interest or native futures depth. The Add tool picker organizes available tools by families, including Charts, Futures and Options. Options has more focused categories such as Exposure, Flow, Statistics, Volatility, Surfaces, Open interest, Screeners and Contracts. Use those categories to avoid selecting a similarly named tool that answers a different question.
Add a tool to the intended group
The Map heading provides Add tool, and an empty layout also offers an entry point. The current target group and available placement choices determine where the new widget appears.
- Open Map and choose the layout you intend to edit.
- Select the panel or tab group you want to extend, then open Add tool.
- Choose the tool family and inspect the available tool names.
- Select the needed tool and use the offered placement to put it in a panel or tab group.
- After it appears, check its symbol, session, link group and tool-specific controls before comparing it with neighboring widgets.
Use duplicate when you want a controlled comparison
The tab menu's Duplicate action creates another instance of an existing tool in an editable layout. This is useful when you want to compare two metrics or filter sets while keeping the original visible. Change only the intended setting on the copy, then rename the tab so the difference is obvious. For example, two exposure tools can have different expiration scopes or metrics even when they share the same underlying. Verify whether they are linked before changing the symbol, because a group-level selection can affect both instances.
Configure the tool at the appropriate level
Header controls provide the common selections exposed by that tool, while Settings in the tab menu opens its supported advanced choices. Some chart types also provide their own native settings and indicator menus. A renamed tab changes its label, not the meaning of its underlying data. Reset tool restores the tool's defaults when applicable, and should be used deliberately after recording any settings you want to retain. Do not expect every tool to expose the same filters: a stock price view and an exact option contract view require different identities and inputs.
Move or replace a view without deleting market evidence
If a tool belongs elsewhere, use the layout's movement controls or Alt-drag the individual tab to another group. Replacing a view can be accomplished by adding the intended tool and closing the unwanted one after confirming the replacement works. A panel can hold several tools, so you do not have to remove one merely to inspect another. Closing a widget changes the layout. It does not delete retained market history, a separate alert rule, a developer project or the account's instrument-specific drawing documents.
Close a tool deliberately
Open the tool's tab menu and choose Close tool in an editable Map layout. The inline confirmation prevents an accidental menu click from immediately removing the view; complete the confirmation only for the intended tab. Confirm the tab title and group before acting when several similar widgets are open. Removing the last tab can leave an empty group or layout that needs another tool. After structural changes, wait for the layout's save state. If the arrangement was a useful reference, Duplicate the layout before removing several tools at once.
Diagnose unavailable tools before rebuilding the workspace
A new widget can be correctly installed yet empty because of an unsupported selection, a narrow filter or missing source inputs. Check its effective symbol, trading date, session and status first. A futures widget on a different streamed symbol may be queued and offer Take over; repeatedly adding copies will not resolve that state. A volume-dependent chart choice can be disabled for an asset without known volume. If the picker or tool fails, capture the tool name and exact message. Replacing an unavailable widget with another copy does not repair source coverage or grant the missing entitlement.
