Bookmap belongs on the shortlist when a trader wants to examine displayed liquidity over time. OrderMap belongs in the same buying conversation when the trader also wants options exposure, options flow and futures execution analysis connected in one terminal. The choice starts with the question you want the screen to answer, not with which screenshot has the brightest bands.

Separate the three data layers
An order book describes displayed resting interest. A trade record describes an execution. A volume profile aggregates executions by price over a chosen period. All three can share one price axis while conveying different evidence.
Bookmap's main-chart documentation describes a liquidity heatmap, volume dots, volume bars, best bid and ask, and last price. That makes it a clear candidate for a visual workflow centered on the relationship between resting liquidity and trades.
OrderMap's futures workspace offers a captured-depth heatmap, executed-volume bubbles, footprint or candle modes, and a session executed profile. It also includes separate options analytics. The overlap is real, but similar chart elements should not be assumed to have identical grouping, thresholds, feed histories or signal definitions.
| Question | Evidence required | Evaluation task |
|---|---|---|
| Was liquidity displayed here? | Captured depth and its time range | Locate a band and inspect when it appeared |
| Did volume actually trade? | Execution records | Separate bubbles from resting size |
| Did aggressive buying advance price? | Classified executions plus price response | Compare activity with subsequent progress |
| Where did the session trade most? | Session profile | Match session boundaries and contract |
| Can I review the sequence? | Recorded data and replay controls | Confirm what was captured before replaying |
