Read watchlist quotes, change and buy share
Separate settlement-based change, observed sparklines and classified execution flow.
Expand a row before comparing numbers
Select a watchlist row to reveal the available Open, High, Low, Volume, VWAP, Open interest, previous close or settlement, Close and Last update tiles. The compact price and change are only part of the quote context. Read the exact instrument and any resolved futures contract first, then identify which session the expanded statistics describe. A current price, a previous reference and a session aggregate do not have to share the same timestamp. Keeping those distinctions visible prevents a plausible-looking comparison between unrelated observation windows.
Identify the basis of price change
The change display depends on an actual reference value. Futures commonly compare with the previous official settlement, shown as Prev. settle, while another instrument can use Prev. close. Settlement and the last traded price before a screen was closed are not interchangeable. When checking a percentage change, use the labeled reference rather than a remembered chart close. If the basis is unavailable, a blank or unavailable change is more informative than assuming the reference was zero. An instrument roll can also make comparisons across dated contracts inappropriate.
Read session statistics by their own meaning
Open, High and Low describe the available session range. Volume aggregates observed or reported activity for that scope, and VWAP needs eligible price-and-volume inputs. Open interest measures a different quantity from intraday execution volume and can have its own dated publication. A missing field does not mean no activity occurred. Some asset types do not have meaningful execution volume or VWAP in the same sense as a traded futures contract. Use the row's source and session enrichment labels to understand what was actually supplied.
- Select the row and read the expanded statistic labels.
- Check the previous reference and the latest price timestamp.
- Compare statistics only after matching their instrument and session scope.
Treat the sparkline as observed points
The watchlist sparkline summarizes available price observations. It is useful for quickly seeing the path represented by those points, but it is not a complete tick archive. A gap means observations are missing from that displayed series, and a visually flat segment does not prove that every intervening trade occurred at one price. If the sparkline and a larger chart look different, compare interval, selected date, session and timestamp first. The larger chart may be panned to history or grouped differently from the compact watchlist series.
Interpret buy share and CVD
Buy share uses classified buy volume divided by classified buy plus sell volume. Unknown aggressors are excluded from that denominator, so 70% buy does not establish that 70% of all market volume was a buyer-initiated execution. Inspect unknown volume and captured-flow coverage when available. CVD and related execution-flow values require actual classified execution inputs. They are not reconstructed from whether an OHLC candle closed green or red. A rising price and a particular buy-share value can coexist without one being a substitute calculation for the other.
Separate price source and enrichment source
The expanded row can show one source and time for the price and another source, delay or status for session data. This is expected when the application enriches a current quote with separately available session statistics. An explicitly implied SPX or NDX estimate is labeled and can show Official last alongside it. Do not treat the estimate as an official cash-index update while the cash market is closed. Check both source lines before comparing a current estimate with an older official value or a delayed session statistic.
Investigate a mismatch using matching context
When a watchlist value differs from another tool, record the instrument, exact contract, session, displayed previous reference and timestamps from both places. A different contract, settlement basis or enrichment delay can explain a difference without either display being an erroneous duplicate. If the quote is stale, preserve its last update and visible status before refreshing. For unavailable flow, report the coverage and unknown-volume information rather than inferring aggressor direction from the sparkline. A screenshot of the expanded row gives support much more usable evidence than the compact price alone.
