Understand sessions and trading dates
Keep regular, overnight and combined selections aligned across tools.
A trading session is more than a calendar date
The trading date identifies the exchange session being analyzed, which can begin on the previous calendar evening. A computer showing Tuesday does not imply that every visible observation belongs to Tuesday's regular cash session. OrderMap uses instrument-specific calendars and exposes RTH, GTH and Combined choices where the feature supports them. These choices determine eligible observations rather than simply changing chart shading. Before comparing values, identify the instrument, session and trading date together. A date without its session is often insufficient to reproduce a view.
Understand the session choices
RTH selects the regular trading session. GTH selects eligible global or overnight options trading, and Combined joins eligible segments. Actual availability depends on the root, exchange calendar, data source and account access. Some option roots do not have an overnight session. A disabled overnight choice can reflect missing access rather than a navigation fault. Choosing Combined does not manufacture observations for periods the source did not capture. When a widget uses a session-specific calculation, changing the session changes the question and can legitimately change totals, levels and the latest eligible timestamp.
Align several tools before comparing them
Use a short selection checklist when moving between Gamma, Options Flow and Map. Linked tools can share compatible settings, but an independent widget or pinned view can still retain its own historical choice.
- Set the instrument first and verify the exact contract when the tool requires one.
- Select the intended session in the shared or widget-specific control.
- Choose the trading date and, for a historical investigation, the required time or minute.
- Inspect each tool's header for the effective selection, including a pin when date and time are fixed.
- Read source timestamps before comparing a current snapshot with a historical chart.
Read the futures session boundary
Retained futures sessions run from 18:00 Eastern Time on the preceding date to 17:00 Eastern Time on the trading date. A Sunday evening observation can therefore belong to Monday's futures session. The maintenance interval between these sessions is not automatically a missing-history incident. A full-session Volume Profile uses that configured session scope, even if the visible chart only shows the most recent fifteen minutes. Changing candle interval or zoom does not redefine which captured executions belong to the profile's session.
Account for closures, early closes and overnight limits
Options calendars use the selected root's actual eligibility rules, including closures and early closes. Do not assume every weekday has a normal complete session or that an overnight interval exists for every underlying. A requested window can be valid while still containing no eligible captured observations. After a closure, a current view may show the latest available closed session rather than today's calendar date. Historical retention is also separate from the calendar: a past exchange session can have existed even when OrderMap no longer retains the required evidence for that range.
Distinguish session selection from display shading
An OHLC chart theme can contain custom session-shading preferences, but changing those colors or display schedules does not change exchange eligibility. Likewise, optional implied SPX or NDX pricing can extend the displayed off-cash price window while remaining explicitly modeled. An implied futures-based index estimate does not turn into an official cash-session print. For a practical example, a shaded evening region, an overnight options selection and a full Globex futures profile may share screen space while each has a different source and session meaning.
Troubleshoot a date mismatch systematically
If two tools disagree on the date, compare their instrument family, session, pin state and source time before pressing Refresh. Unpin a view only when you intend to return it to current selection. Check whether the market is closed or whether the selected date is an early-close day. Capture the actual displayed dates in a support screenshot rather than writing only 'today.' Include your local timezone if it differs from Eastern Time. These details help distinguish a legitimate overnight boundary from a stale capture, unsupported session or incorrectly retained historical selection.
